Big news! The Department of Labor declared that parents can use FMLA time to attend their child’s IEP meetings! As a teacher, I had to reschedule countless IEP’s over the years because parents had scheduling conflicts with work. This new declaration will help to alleviate some of the pressures parents feel regarding IEP meetings. Being involved in the IEP process as a parent takes enough effort as it is without worrying about the status of your employment, too. This is a step in the right direction!
