It can be difficult for school staff to get into the habit of taking data, but data is an essential piece of special education. Data tells us where a child’s starting point (baseline) is, when progress is being made, and when a goal has been achieved. IEP goals should be clear and measure-able. This determines how data will be taken, and parents have the right to view data as part of their child’s educational record. If your child doesn’t seem to be making progress then it’s time to review the data with your IEP team.
